Become A Lake

An aging master grew tired of his apprentice’s complaints. One morning, he sent him to get some salt. When the apprentice returned, the master told him to mix a handful of salt in a glass of water and then drink it.

“How does it taste?” the master asked.

“Bitter,” said the apprentice.

The master chuckled and then asked the young man to take the same handful of salt and put it in the lake. The two walked in silence to the nearby lake and once the apprentice swirled his handful of salt in the water, the old man said, “Now drink from the lake.”

As the water dripped down the young man’s chin, the master asked, “How does it taste?”

“Fresh,” remarked the apprentice.

“Do you taste the salt?” asked the master.

“No,” said the young man. At this the master sat beside this serious young man, and explained softly,

“The pain of life is pure salt; no more, no less. The amount of pain in life remains exactly the same. However, the amount of bitterness we taste depends on the container we put the pain in. So when you are in pain, the only thing you can do is to enlarge your sense of things. Stop being a glass. Become a lake.”

Love Your Parents

What comes to your mind when you first think of your parents? Is it a nice, warming feeling filling your heart and soul with joy and happiness? Do memories come back to you like it was yesterday playing in the yard with them? While we grow up to a certain age, we cannot imagine our lives without our parents. They are here for us every time we need them. They do their best to raise their kids and give them everything they ever wanted.

Usually during our teenage years it seems like we grew up over night. It seems like we don’t need our parents here asking questions like “How was your day?”, “Can we talk?”, “Where are you going?”, “Who were you with?”… Those types of question seem really annoying and a lot of kids don’t even spend time with their parents. That’s when we make our biggest mistake in our lives. Not spending time with our parents when we most need it. There is also the very opposite of this. Kids willing to talk to their parents, but their parents are not interested in spending time with them, thinking that it is a waste of time.

Time goes by so fast. A true example of that is Marc Mero who is a professional wrestler and a former WCW and WWE Champion. In his life he had his own priorities and a definition of success. Now he’s on the other side of the story describing how time flew faster that he could ever imagine. It took him just four minutes to bring an entire middle school to tears. Wow! His story is amazing. It will make you question yourself about your way of treating your parents. This video has an unbelievably strong message. His story will definitely change your way of thinking and your perceptions of life.

Always be nice to your parents. Every time you have a chance to tell them how much you love them do that, and be thankful for having them. There might not be another time to thank them for what they’ve done for you. You should have this in mind: any parents would give their life just to make sure their kids have everything they need. Respect and love your parents.
